Canadian federal government to develop a national wellbeing framework

For over 20 years, the community and university led Canadian Index of Wellbeing has been an international leader in the development of national wellbeing frameworks, but successive federal governments failed to take its work on board, although various provinces and cities have. Finally, last year, the Trudeau government announced the formal development of a national quality of life framework and strategy, which it intends to build into government as a basis for national policymaking, planning and budgets. The work is to be carried out by the Department of Finance and Stats Canada. ANDI is part of an informal advisory group that includes the Canadian departments and their equivalents in NZ.
